is to categorize movies based on the relatable elements in the movie such as narration and emotional. Hollywood movies are influenced by the trend ironic hybridization; this means that directors tend to combine different genres together to make a complete movie. Most movies have audience and publications that supported them to give the general public an expectation for the film. Because genres can let people guess what is going to happen in the end of the movie and get some surprises from the movie. The reason I wrote this is for the Film Studies (UJMB2083) assignment.
The Movie,
Zombieland is a movie that an ordinary gamer boy, Columbus that lives in his college dorm alone in Austin, Texas caught in the post-apocalyptic disaster that turns the infected into zombies. In this movie, he struggles to travel back to his hometown and meets a man called Tallahassee who fights alone and together they went on a journey to their destination, Tallahassee’s hope was to find a Twinkie snack before anything bad happened to him, because his dog, which at the end of the movie Columbus found out that it is his son, were killed by the zombies. In the journey, they meet two female survivals which are sisters, Wichita and Little Rock. Columbus and his partner were tricked by the two girls that Little Rock was infected, but turns out they are trying to steal their stuffs. Between the journey they had fun and became friends. Wichita and Little Rock went to Pacific Playland, which is their goal in life, and Columbus decided to go after them because he has fell in love with Wichita. Turns out Wichita and her sister were chased by nearby zombies because the play land lights attracted them. Zombieland is based on a lot of genres, mostly comedy and horror.
Horror
The general idea of horror is to terrify the viewers and make them react negatively when they watched the movie, this genre consists of many subgenres, such as unnatural which the zombie took place as the major treat in this movie, because humans can turn into zombie is a zombie bit them. Another subgenre in the movie is monster, which is the zombie virus originated from mad-cow disease, mutated to mad human disease, then mutated to mad zombie disease. There are use of phallic substitutes as weapons, because they live in a post-apocalyptic world, which what is left is non-lethal weapons and ordinary everyday items.
Comedy
Comedy consists of multiple types of subgenres that filmmakers can use in their film, and it is the most used genre for Zombieland. The types of comedy the Zombieland used are spoof comedy which they did a parody of Ghost Busters using the vacuum cleaner as the ghost capturing machine and the chandelier as the place where the ghost is after consuming drugs that is given by Bill Murray. Another subgenre is slapstick comedy, which the open the door to hit the zombie and the run over the zombies with the car to double tap them. Also dark comedy, which is relating comedy to horror, this movie brings humour in a world populated with flesh eating zombies.
Romance
Romance is a minor part that occur in this movie, this relationship is between Columbus and Wichita, Columbus was the desperate guy who has not hook up with any girls before and he wants to bring a girl back to show his family, and Wichita is the girl that thinks he is cute because of his timid attitude.
